Something Blue on the Bonnie Banks

The waves of Loch Lomond provided the backdrop for the something blue in Susan and Robert’s sunny, May Wedding Day. We asked Susan about the planning and the best bits of their Wedding Day and she offers some great inspiration to fellow Brides-to-be about looking after your Wedding guests! Let’s start though with the other stunning, something blue in this Wedding…

How did you feel on the morning of the Wedding?

Rob and I were both relatively calm on morning of Wedding. We both however, got a little nervous as the ceremony approached. I especially felt the nerves hit me once it was time to get in my dress but I loved, loved my something blue which was my Wedding shoes! I was also later than I expected to be and this added to my poor husband’s anxiety.

Did you enjoy the planning of the Wedding?

As all Brides do, they live and breathe their Wedding but one thing I wanted to do was really look after our guests and keep them entertained. We had bubbles for the kids whilst out in the patio and a fantastic singer for after the drinks reception after ceremony.

During our meal as a surprise, I had booked the Secret Opera Singers, other than the two Mums and a couple of other people nobody knew about this. The look on our guests faces when the waitress and chef came out to sing as a bet was priceless. They were so believable that the groom, Rob thought that I had in fact went into the kitchen and betted them to come out, so much so he was going into his sporran to pull out the bet money. Our guests thoroughly enjoyed this act.

My maid of honour was also trying to get Gary Barlow to come and sing at Wedding and sent the most wonderful letter to him which was also very funny. Sadly, no appearance from the man himself. We did however have ‘Greatest Day’ by Take That as our first dance.

To compensate for no Gary Barlow, Minnie and Micky Mouse sent us their best wishes, which was read out at speeches. I had read on a blog that if you send an invite to them they send you a card back. Rob thought I was mad to be sending an invite to the Magic Kingdom in Florida but they did not disappoint and responded.

As we had a quite a few little ones at the day I had also booked a balloon modeller to entertain the kids just after meal. Tommy was also a magician so he complimented his act fantastically and again kids were delighted and adult guests enjoyed the magic.

At the end of the night I had made up hangover kits which my lovely bridal party distributed to our guest, all contents were in a sick bag and included mini irn-bru, paracetamol, mini tic-tacs, crisps and chocolate, coffee sachet and tea bag. These were also so well received and I’m told were a godsend the next morning.

Were there any mishaps at the Wedding?

At the very end of night ourselves and some of our guest had gathered in the hotel bar to enjoy a little extra tipple, to be completed by the fire alarm to going off about 1.30am. As it continued we were all escorted outside with Balloch fire brigade arriving just before 2am. Of course one of my friends requested the firemen to pose for a picture, which the kindly did.

What were the best bits of the day for you?

The best bit for both of us was that we loved having all our close friends and family there to share in our special day but the weather was a massive hit. It had been a glorious week and it stayed kind to us for the Wedding Day, so much so that we were able to get married on the hotel patio overlooking the beautiful loch and the sky over Loch Lomond was certainly something blue that day!

One of my friends Gillian had arranged a surprise boat trip for us in the evening just after our meal. Her friend owns a boat and it just so happened that he was on in our area, at the request of Gillian – James very kindly met us at the jetty and took us a little spin round the lochs just after we had had our meal. It was rather apt as we named our table names after the lochs that form Loch Lomond.
