Perhaps it's that 88% of Glasgow men would open doors for their date, or that 79% of men from Scotland's largest city would pay for a first date*, that led to 2,294 Marriages and 119 Civil Partnerships taking place in Glasgow in 2008.

It could be though that Glasgow is trendy: the MOBO Awards were held here in September 2009 - the first time this prestigious and internationally attended Awards Ceremony has taken place outside London. Glasgow has also been recognised as the European City of Culture 1990; the UK City of Architecture and Design 1999, the European Capital of Sport 2003 and will host the Commonwealth Games in 2014.

Or do Brides flock here because Buchanan Street has fast become the top Designer shopping destination outside London, in addition to over 10 fabulous shopping malls in which you will find everything you need for your Big Day from gowns to garters? It is not by accident that Glasgow is marketed as 'Scotland with Style!'

Is it Glasgow's stunning Victorian architecture which draws more than 3.2 million tourists here each year for a photo opportunity? Or that of the more than 20 internationally acclaimed Museums and Art Galleries you will find in Glasgow, all of them offer free admission to the visitor which will keep your Wedding guests amused should your own Wedding photos take a while? Glasgow does offer a wealth and variety of breathtaking venues from the intimate to the extravagent in which to host your special Wedding Day and to pose in, outside, or on top of, for photos!!

Glasgow was founded by St. Mungo, perhaps not in itself an immediate draw for the discerning Bride and Groom. Lying however, on the West coast of Scotland and being well served by two international airports, one of which hosts a RyanAir hub, affords cheap travel for your guests to get here, or a cheap honeymoon getaway for the Bride and Groom!

Perhaps your Husband to be wants to get married in Glasgow so he can catch a sneaky game of football as Glasgow is home to not one but four football clubs: Celtic, Partick Thistle, Queens Park and Rangers?

 Or maybe Glasgow's appeal is our many famous and fictional characters from the worlds of music, sport, entertainment and invention: Bily Connolly, Fran Healy, Jim Kerr, Frankie Boyle, Rab C. Deacon Blue, Simple Minds, Del Amitri, Texas, Wet Wet Wet and Franz Ferdinand are all groups to which Glasgow would also lay claim.

All said and done, maybe you are just one of those lucky 600,000 people who populate Glasgow on a daily basis and so would not consider getting married anywhere else? Or that you are just too scared to leave the city knowing that 91%* of Glasgow Girls would not forgive a cheater?
